There are two words that are recently used a lot by many people - political correctness. We see almost everyday news coming up in social media with lots of comments that argue about PC. Even though "political correctness is language … measures intended to avoid offence or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society", it certainly affects many other people badly - people feel discredited, labelled and even punished, which mostly happens in form of silencing and censoring that we often encounter under free speech. We could say that there is a vague line between political correctness and free speech just like there is between free speech and hate speech. Personally, I have always tried to defend free speech while trying to avoid offensive words and defending consequences that people should bear in specific cases. In most cases, I have always prioritized to understand the underdog, the marginalised, the "suppressed". But I see recently, political correctness has been used as a manipulative tool to design a specific society that has an intolerant tendency and therefore creates an "another" suppressed group. A group that has unfortunately adopted the self-prevention, which expands the free speech of "some", while silencing "the self"… I would like to know what Honest community think about PC and ask specifically: Do you think that political correctness is being used today as a manipulative tool? Can it really be "the correct" when there is a "political" word inside?
Regarding free speech, my previous post on Honest Cash was about freedom of expression and censorship focusing on J.S. Mill's arguments. In that post, I had mentioned Mill's Harm Principle and how a hate speech could be argued around the principle. In this post, I would like to make reference to Holocaust denial in the context of freedom of expression. The reason why I wanted to write about is a n...
In the poster, it is said: "We will not forget, we will not forgive" In my last post, I wrote about free speech and censorship by focusing on J.S. Mill. This time I wanted to be more personal as it would also give me the chance to tell you where I come from.  I am coming from Turkey, a country that consists of several different ethnic groups such as Kurds, Armenians, Greek, Jews, Assyrians (no...
Freedom of speech or freedom of self-expression has always been of the most argued concepts respecting its scope, its limit as well as its possible effects on an individual or a society. We could say that it has always been a popular concept to debate mostly by the philosophers under the topic of liberty. However, we see that a lot of people have recently been referencing to "freedom of speech"...
For people who have no idea about Blockchain technology vol.2 “It will cry after you.” (a saying used where I come from) This is what in Turkey (or at least 50% of us) we heard during our childhood when we did not want to finish our food: “The food left in the plate was gonna cry after us.” Well, there is a situation of crying indeed. But is that the food in the plate? I wish so, but no. ...
For people who have no idea about Blockchain technology. OMG, did you hear about the 70% sale in ZARA? 30 min later ended up in the store. Well, I barely do shopping but I have to admit, if there is a big sale out there by one of my favorite brands, I try to pop up in the store asap, just like many of my peers. Do I buy always something? Nope. But there is certainly something I do each tim...
