Read Anatomy of an Epidemic by Robert Whitaker please. This book explores why rates of psychiatric disability have increased dramatically over the last few decades.
Psychiatrist Thomas Szasz wrote about 35 books.
I recommend starting Szasz by reading Suicide Prohibition, Psychiatric Slavery, and Psychiatry: The Science of Lies (3 separate books).
I first learned about Szasz in undergraduate studies, and then more so in graduate school.
Szasz rejected the term antipsychiatry and even wrote a book about why the classical version of antipsychiatry is quackery.
